Director Of Weston Library Takes New Role At C.H. Booth In Newtown

NEWTOWN, Conn. — The library director in Weston has accepted the same position at the C.H. Booth Library in Newtown.

The Trustees of the C.H.Booth Library announced that Karen Tatarka will join the library on March 1. She has been the Director of the Weston Library since 2011. She will replace Brenda J. McKinley, who accepted the position as the Director of the Ridgefield Library in December. 

Tartarka has more than 20 years of library experience in both the academic and public library fields. She is a graduate of Fordham University with a Bachelors and Masters degree in English Literature and received her Masters of Library Science Degree from Southern Connecticut State University. She is an active member of the Connecticut Library Association, the American Library Association, and currently serves as President of the Bibliomation Library Consortium.

An eight-person search committee spent several months coordinating a national search for a new Director of the Booth Library. “After a deliberate and robust process, our search committee and the board unanimously agreed that Karen was the individual to lead our Library,'' Board President Robert Geckle said. "Her experience in both academic and public libraries, her passion and love for community service, and her proven track record in Weston make her the ideal candidate to lead our cherished library.”

Tatarka will lead a staff of 25 full and part-time workers. The Library offers a range a range of emerging and tested technologies and provides access to on-line and virtual collections. In the past year, over 145,000 patrons visited our Library. The library has been a focal point of Newtown for over 84 years, since its opening on Dec. 17, 1932.
